Consultations for Young Women Age Definition
11 July, 2016

An opportunity for Fijian young women to voice their unique concerns and opinions.

The Fiji Women’s Rights Movement is excited to hold a series of face to face nationwide consultations this month with diverse young women in defining the age bracket for young women in our work. This is also accompanied by an online survey to encourage wider contribution by young women.

“FWRM work with women from various diverse backgrounds and we find there are varying definitions of youth and who is seen as a a young woman,” said Fiji Women’s Rights Movement Executive Director Tara Chetty.

“We have a vibrant Young Women in Leadership Programme that includes GROW, INSPIRE, RELATE, LEAD, SUCCES (GIRLS) and the Emerging Leaders Forum (ELF) program that engages with girls aged 10 -12 years and young women aged 18-25 years. This is an opportunity for young women to weigh into the discussions because they have unique knowledge and perspectives on critical issues they face.”

The participants through FWRM’s young women’s network including the Emerging Leaders Forum Alumni and the Fiji Young Women’s Forum are part of these consultations. The information gathered from this exercise will assist the organisation in further strengthening its advocacy programmes targeting young women.

“The consultations help document diverse young women’s ideas and views, to ensure our current and future programmes continue to be inclusive of them.”

Consultations will be held in the west from the 12th to the 14th of July and in the north on the 15th to the 17th of July. This is supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) We Rise Coalition
