Include us in the dialogue process, CSO urge state

Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s) urge the State to include them and acknowledge them as an integral stakeholder in the dialogue process on the road to the Busan Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in November 29 – December 1, 2011.

These sentiments were expressed at a workshop on Developing the Capacity of CSOs on Aid and Development Effectiveness at the Studio 6 Conference Room today.

Organised by the NGO Coalition on Human Rights*, in partnership with Reality of Aid**, the goals of this workshop were to:

  1. Raise awareness among CSOs on Aid and Development Effectiveness
  2. Raise awareness of CSOs on the importance of Busan/Aid and Development Effectiveness and identify venues or spaces for deeper CSO involvement and engagement
  3. Consolidate the position of CSOs as to their demands and positions on key issues around aid; and
  4. Enrich the CSO Key Asks by providing comments on the current draft and endorsing it.

Among other recommendations, CSO’s present also acknowledge the need for more collaboration amongst themselves and with the State to determine a shared stand on priority areas/approaches for development effectiveness.

The outcomes of this national workshop will also be put forward at a regional workshop later this week in Nadi.

Present at this workshop were representatives from the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum, Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy, Fiji Environment Law Association, Fiji Rotahomes Project (Lautoka), Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, Pacific Centre for Peace-Building (Suva & Labasa), femLINK PACIFIC, Pacific Islands Aids Foundation, Partners’ in Community Development Fiji and Women’s Action for Change, with support from the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre.
